We’ve taken lessons learned from revamping our NIH data and applied them to our NSF data pipeline. This brings a few important improvements.

Event history

Especially now that we are seeing a new round of terminations of NSF grants, it is important to be able to audit the history of events a grant has experienced that we use to determine its current status. You’ll now find an event_history column with a bulleted list of events and relevant URLs just like in our NIH data.

Improved value estimates

The amount spent (outlaid), and amount remaining for each award is now frozen at the time of first disruption. This means that even for terminated grants that have been reinstated and received additional outlays, we can still quantify the loss at the time of termination. This change brings the total remaining value of currently terminated NSF grants to $762.46M.
